Cat Tales
Walking around the neighbourhood, it’s quite likely you’ll encounter a cat.
Not surprising as recently reported, we in Britain own more cats (over 10 million) than we do dogs (just under 10 million).

However, cats lead more independent lives wandering through our gardens or enjoying the sun in the street. Here are some of these local moggies...

Missing Moggies
There has been much success (so far)
in reuniting missing cats with their concerned owners.

It really helps if the cat is wearing a collar with a name and/or tel tag.
Having your pet microchipped has also helped to identify lost moggies.

Posters with clear pictures and a contact number
have proved very effective too.

Missing Moggies
Their story...
Nutkin
This far wandering boy was seen all day hopefully peering into a Lansdown Rd home. Finally, he went through the catflap to the cat food there. The next day he was taken to be identified by microchip at the local vets. His home was in Westbury on Trym and he’d been missing 2 weeks

Postcards were posted all round the district of this sweet looking cat. Finally, a scrawled message said he'd been found...and he may now often be seen along Hampton Park Rd
the Shop cat
A few posters had been put up, but these proved useful only when this bold, long haired lad decided to take up residence in a shop on Chandos Rd.
He looked very at home there,
when he in fact only lived a
short walk away on Elliston Rd

Posters highlighted this much loved, young cat who’d just been allowed out into the big wide world and promptly got lost! He was found by his faint meeowing, frightened but unharmed behind the Kensington Rd railway wall just up from his home
Bob
This Stanley Rd cat was so timid, he didn’t normally leave the house! But a trip to the vet caused a panicked escape and he was miraculously found petrified in Horfield. His injuiries showed a traumatic journey. Sadly, he later went missing again

samson Samson
This lad decided he was not ready to move to his new house on Stanley Rd and walked back to his old home! Unfortunately he was injured during this trip but happily he is now settled at his next new home in Clifton

If your beloved pet goes missing, please do get in touch via info@lansdownrdbs6.co.uk to help spread the word

Duchess Duchess
Cat Tales
Duchess
- The elegant lady cat of Roslyn Rd...
This dark, tortoiseshell young queen, only one year old, has led a very sheltered life.

Noting her noble qualities, she was named by her 'rescurers' at the Holly Bush Farm. Duchess has easily settled into her new abode on Roslyn Rd making friends with fellow feline, Cloudberry.

Her loud, majestic purr may often be heard from her chosen retreat atop the freezer or kitchen dresser.

Cat fact:
Did you know that domestic moggies tend to live longer than pedigree cats -
the average age of a cat is 14 years

Cat Tales
Cloudberry
- The cat with literary connections...
This striking 8 year old, ginger lad, was named after
one of the “last four gnomes of Great Britain”.

Featured in the novel, “The Little Grey Men” and the sequel “Down the Bright Stream”, they have been described as the most distinguished fantasy of the war years. Written by Denys Watkins-Pitchford (under nom de plume BB) in 1942, the stories tell of the exploits of the flower named gnomes, Baldmoney, Sneezewort, Dodder and Cloudberry. Cloudberry, decides one day to explore and does not return, so his friends set off to find him.

It is doubtful whether home loving Duchess would lead the rescue mission for housemate kitty,“Cloudberry”.

Luckily, Cloudberry the cat, does know how to find his way home.
Though, he too likes to venture forth and has even accompanied fellow householders to the Londis or part way to school.

Just like his literary counterpart, Cloudberry has an affinity to nature and likes to sleep surrounded by flowers. Unfortunately this means he”s often found dozing in the front flowerbed!

Peter Jones Peter Jones
Cat Tales
Peter Jones
- The big cat with a big name to match...
Peter or Mr Jones, as his vet officially calls him, is the big white and tabby cat living on Brighton Rd. This street wise moggie is a local lad, chosen as a kitten from a Cotham family home.

Cat fact:
Did you know that owning a cat is proven to reduce strees and lower blood pressure? ...that is until they bring home a furry or feathery 'gift'

Peter Jones Peter Jones

His 15 years have seen plenty of action, as recorded by his various scars and ragged ears. The most recent mysterious incident left him with chunk taken out of his tongue… now healing nicely thank you.

None of these misadventures have stopped this bruiser from checking his territory. Though what he truly gets up to is a real riddle to his carers, so if you have seen Peter Jones out and about, please get in touch.

It is known that he is an accomplished hunter, few mice, rats or even, unfortunately, birds are safe from his clutches, though he still prefers the expensive shop bought gourmet foods.

Probably just living up to the qualities of his namesake...

Not Peter Jones the tycoon on BBC's Dragon's Den
but the famous Peter Jones Department Store of Sloane Square, London.
The obvious thing to name your cat after...
Peter Jones, a quality cat with a quality name

Tom Tom
Cat Tales
Tom
- The cat with no tail
What is it about Tom Cat, which makes him so easy to identify?...
Perhaps, it is his gorgeous ginger colour...
But no, the obvious thing, about Tom, is his lack of tail.

Tom Tom

Well, this hasn't affected young Tom's co ordination.
He's often seen wandering along the garden divides of Brighton and Cowper Rds or along Kensington Rd's railway wall. Hanging out with his Cowper Rd ginger moggie mates, Starsky and Hutch.

Originally from a Westbury on Trym home, he was named after Beatrix Potter's roguish, Tom Kitten.
Now 8 years later, he may be plain Tom, but he's still a character.

And the tail, well there is no tale...
he arrived home one day in a very poor state, possibly having been run over by a vehicle. He was taken straight to the vet, where his tail, too badly damaged, could not be saved.
There were no witnesses to the event so it is pure guess work as to what happened.

So there you have it,
simply Tom, the friendly, ginger cat of Brighton Rd with no tail.
