Parking Your Problem -
The Message...
This is the clear message on the leaflets created by the Avon Fire Service..
do not park selfishly
These roads are notorious for their poor access and
so these leaflets were to be distributed in this area.
However, over in the past few months it is noticeable,
vehicle drivers HAVE been parking far more considerately.
LONG MAY THIS CONTINUE...
Please, please, please do not be the first to find one of these leaflets
on your vehicle
To receive one, means you could be responsible for delaying
an ambulance, police vehicle or a fire engine.
Keep coming back to this page and sadly see the less considerate amongst us in the

Whose right...?
The issue of going down these narrow roads and find another car coming the opposite way. Not such an challenge on most of the roads, as you can easily wait at the end to let the other vehicle by.
By the way, it helps if the oncoming vehicle indicates it's intended direction prior to the junction!
The real dilemma point is on Brighton Rd. How many times has one started down that route to get half way and have another vehicle decide to come round the bottom bend and keep going...
What happens then?
It has been repeatedly been made clear that some vehicle owners do not know they have a reverse gear. Completely unable to take the more reasonable option of waiting at the corner, instead forcing the other vehicle to manoeuvre backwards the entire length of Brighton Rd and then riskily on to the major road.
There is no written rule but there is something called common sense... so let's apply that instead.
If a car is already on Brighton Rd perhaps that should have priority. If a vehicle is already oncoming, do not commit to the route, unless you can see an empty passing space, just apply a little patience and let them turn the corner.
This is a nightmare area if you are not confident about your reversing skills.
This is yet another obvious reason not to park on the corners, restricting the passing points of the two vehicles. So the risk of damage to the parked one is higher. Rant over...

Parking on Corners - the Consequences
So finding any spare spot, maybe on a
junction, will look very tempting but it is not a good idea

A genuine picture of the Ambulance reversing along Kensington Rd, stopped by vehicles parked at the bottom of Brighton Rd. In the past, it has been delayed like this in it’s response to a heart attack victim and an elderly resident in urgent need.

So think carefully before leaving your vehicle on these corners,
your vehicle is at risk and you put others at risk
Please note,
this is a priority issue with the local police, who are taking positive action against inconsiderate parking on junctions by issuing ‘Fixed Penalty Notices’. Vehicles will be towed if it is deemed necessary.

just evidence of inconsideration to other road users and pedestrians

There is no way to say this kindly,
parking around here is a 'nightmare'.
So if you are considering or about to join this local community,
please think carefully about the need for a car.

These classic pictures show the most extreme case to date.
Please don't try it!
There have been a number of 'smash and grab' thefts from cars in the Redland area. Keep valuables out of sight!
